Harvard Creates a Clothing Line?!

That's right. The university has inked a ten-year licensing deal with clothing manufacturer Wearwolf Group for a line of contemporary men's apparel called Harvard Yard. The line includes "short-sleeve plaid shirts, Liberty print wovens, seersucker shorts, regimental stripes, sporty knits, patterned jackets and fancy pants — all in a contemporary, tapered fit," according to WWD.

Prices range from $165 for pants to $495 for sport coats. The line's creative director, John Fowler, told WWD that designers drew from photos of students lounging in Harvard Yard in the sixties. “It’s a style that has become current again and not just with the American consumer. We think Harvard Yard will have global appeal.”

Hyden Yoo Spring 2010

I've been watching Hyden Yoo progress over the last few seasons. I saw this collection at Capsule a few weeks ago. It seems like he has worked out his once-problem with fit. Since then some great stores such as Blackbird and Roden Gray have picked this label up.

Brixton Adds Apparel for Fall 2009

Brixton is known for their well-priced, high-style hats. And now they've added apparel to the collection. The button-ups, outerwear, and long-sleeved henleys look like the perfect pieces to keep you warm this coming fall and winter. I remember meeting the two designers back in Chicago not too long ago. Nice guys. They told me about the apparel plans, so I'm glad to see they followed through. Look for these pieces and more at Brixton's online store.

Mjolk Spring 2010 Collection

A favorite of mine for a while now, Mjolk is a breath of fresh air to menswear in the US. I'm looking forward to seeing more of this label in the near future.

Assembly Spring 2010

Despite opening just over a year ago, Assembly New York has already become a go-to for just-left-of-center menswear and vintage, thanks to owner Greg Armas' gimlet eye for detail. Turns out it serves him just as well designing as buying. His debut Assembly collection, due for Spring '10, is comprised of soft-tailored essentials like button-downs, blazers, anoraks, and just-baggy-enough trousers that bring an almost old-world elegance to a utilitarian sensibility.
Prices start at $240; arriving this spring at Assembly, 174 Ludlow St., NYC, (212) 253-5393, assemblynewyork.com; Opening Ceremony, NYC and Japan, openingceremony.us; and Selfridges, U.K., selfridges.com
